Kidderminster Nursery Cultivates Fun

With summer here children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster are busy sowing seeds and planting all kinds of vegetables and flowers in the Nursery’s raised beds as the warmer weather begins.

Little Trinity Nursery Manager, Miss Gaynor Carter, commented: “Sowing seeds and then watching them grow in the nursery garden is a wonderful way to introduce our children to the wonder of the natural world.

“Exploring and developing practical skills through play, using garden tools, trowels and forks and then watering their newly planted seeds is a learning activity which is fun and one that all our children from the youngest at 2-years of age upwards can take part in.”

Located on the Birmingham Road, Little Trinity’s garden is a long-established year-round activity from spring planting through to harvest and winter planting, with the children growing all sorts of vegetables, flowers and herbs and producing an a more diverse selection of plants each year. As part of the Nursery’s daily Early Years personal, social and emotional development activities, children are encouraged to investigate by using touch, smell and taste to assist with their understanding of their surroundings and of the world in which they live; gardening is an activity in which the children, with supervision, can actively take part, watering the plants as they grow.

Miss Carter added: “General gardening and plant growing is an activity the children love and thoroughly enjoy, particularly when it’s time to harvest fruit and vegetables, as these are then tried and eaten at Nursery or taken home to share with their families.”
