Kidderminster Strongman Raising Funds for Mental Health Group Men Walking And Talking

Athlete and fitness fan, Jake Shaylor, will be undertaking a sponsored strongest man competition on the 25th June at Flexible Fitness in Kidderminster with the aim of raising funds and awareness of the need to talk about men’s mental health.

Jake wanted to raise awareness of the need for good mental health amongst men after losing his close friend Taylor Moore, who sadly took his own life earlier this year.

Said Jake: “It’s something which is close to my own heart as I understand how people out there are struggling with mental health issues and I want them to know they’re not alone."

A driver at local builders’ merchant Thompson & Parkes, all money raised by Jake will be donated to ‘Men Walking And Talking’ a men's mental health group who offer a safe place for men to come together, support each other and to talk, and to hopefully one day end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.

Jake began his fitness training 4-years ago as something to do and which quickly became a huge passion. Jake trains at in2shape and is an athlete at RAWR fitness which is run by his brother Marcus and focuses on helping men and young adults struggling with mental health issues to find their passion through the gym.

Added Jake: “I chose ‘Men Walking and Talking’ as I know how hard it is to open up especially when you feel as a man you shouldn’t show emotion. They organise group walks and social get togethers, and when you feel ready you can talk and not feel judged as everyone is there to help.

“Everyone’s support means a lot to me and the men at Men Walking And Talking, so any amount donated will be greatly appreciated for this worthy cause. Thank you all for the support, and let’s make a difference.”
