Little Trinity Nursery Sunflower Competition
Planted during lockdown as part of a whole nursery sunflower growing competition, children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster are delighted with their summer sunflower results.
Nursery Manager, Gaynor Carter, said: "It’s been a wonderful outside activity, and one in which all our children were able share and do together, even though some nursery children couldn’t attend due to the pandemic.”
Designed to engage both children attending nursery and those at home due to Covid-19, they all thoroughly enjoyed planting, watching, and then measuring weekly the progress their tiny seeds made as they developed.
Growing and planting in the Birmingham Road nursery’s garden is a long-established year-round activity, from early spring through to winter planting, the children grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs.
Added Gaynor: “While this is the first time we’ve grown sunflowers, we’d certainly do it again as the enjoyment the children, their families and our staff have had whilst nurturing their tiny seeds in to rather large, sunny sunflowers, has been lovely to see, with each and every child in the end a sunflower growing competition winner!”
