Local MP marks start of expansion of KEMP Hospice
Monday 2nd December saw local MP, Mark Garnier, cutting the first sod as KEMP Hospice begins an exciting new project which will see a three roomed annex added to the existing building in Mason Road in Kidderminster, along with a dedicated, separate, space for children and young people.
KEMP Hospice Chief Executive, Terry Osborn, commented: “The new annex will enable us to much better provide for our patients as we will have larger, lighter and brighter rooms for creative and horticulture therapies, as well as being able to offer quieter rooms for physiotherapy and spiritual care. We will also benefit from a much larger room which will allow us to bring together more people in a single space for both companionship and to enjoy our virtual events such as our Day at Wimbledon or a Day at the Seaside for example.”
Mr Osborn went on to say that the charity was grateful to NHS England and Help the Hospices for the grant which has made all of this possible and to Universal Learning for managing the project on behalf of the charity. The new rooms will offer ease of access to all KEMP Hospice services for patients with life limiting illnesses, along with those for their families, carers and loved ones, as they will be located on the ground floor of the building for the first time.
Mark Garnier MP said: “It is great to see our local KEMP Hospice expand and be able to provide improved services and facilities for local people and their families at what is their time of greatest need. I am also particularly pleased to see the inclusion of a dedicated space for children and young people having seen, over the past year or so, how KEMP has risen to the challenge of providing pre and post bereavement support for young people in our local area.”
The project is on schedule to be completed in March of 2014. Further details can be obtained by contacting KEMP Hospice Chief Executive Terry Osborn on 01527 756000 or email terry.osborn@kemphospice.org.uk
