Northern Ireland’s Woodside Logistics Group Installs Warehouse Racking Safety System
Having previously recognised the safety and business benefits of Rack Collapse Prevention’s (RCP) safety system Woodside Logistics Group have now installed it into their Co. Antrim HQ in Northern Ireland.
A family run business offering transport and logistics solutions across Ireland, the UK, Europe and internationally, Woodside Logistics Group provides everything from full and pallet load distribution, car transportation and storage, to bulk transport of powders, liquids and gases, and offers BRCGS AA grade warehousing and international air and sea freight forwarding.
Initially engaged to install into their Ballycorr Road warehouse in Ballyclare, an ambient store of some 450 frames and a height of 12m, Rack Collapse Prevention was then invited to install at Woodside’s HQ at Ballynure, a 100m by 50m store comprising 250 frames at a height of 11m, securing the safety of approximately 10,000 pallets, across both sites, with the installation taking just three days and always accommodating the needs of the business.
Woodside Logistics Group MD Simon Woodside commented: “Our decision to install the Rack Collapse Prevention was solely based on the safety of our Warehouse employees. The system is tried and tested, and Craig and the RCP team worked around our requirements ensuring no downtime during installation.
“It is comforting to know the risk of racking collapse has been eliminated even if a Leg is accidently damaged. We have plans to expand our warehousing footprint and without hesitation will install the RCP system in any future new facility. The relatively modest installation costs far outweigh the potential loss of life in the event of a racking collapse.”
Rack Collapse Prevention’s safety system is an established and proven system in real-world racking impact events and is designed for any facility where pallet racking is used. Top supporting, cables are suspended from the building's steel structure and attached to each leg. When a building's steel structure isn't suitable then a secondary steel structure is installed to form a support for the suspension cables and never impacts structure integrity.
With all forms of pallet racking there is a risk of racking failure, which is amplified at height.
Rigorously and independently tested by structural engineers and recognised in major incidents to operate within roof structure load limits, all buildings are assessed for suitability prior to installation. In all impact events where Rack Collapse Prevention's safety system is installed, the compromised rack load never gets transferred. A damaged racking leg under load experiences considerable down pressure and will force the leg to buckle and lose the structure’s ability to sustain its intended load capacity, eventually leading to collapse, and the potential domino effect to any other racking attached to, or in its vicinity.
Rack Collapse Prevention Founder Craig Attwell commented: “We are delighted to have supported Woodside Logistics Group in eliminating the risk of racking collapse and providing their team with a safer working environment.”
Rack Collapse Prevention’s safety system is now installed in numerous ambient, chilled and frozen warehouses and storage facilities across Europe, the UK, Ireland and the Western Hemisphere, with the system suitable for earthquake-prone countries.
