Spring In Full Swing at Kidderminster Nursery

With the days longer and rain and warmth encouraging the trees, grass and flowers to grow children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster have been busy in the nursery garden with spring flowers, vegetables and sowing seeds ready for the summer ahead.

Nursery Manager, Gaynor Carter, said: “Gardening and growing is an activity the children love and enjoy. They love planting and sowing seeds and then watching them grow and it’s such a wonderful way of introducing them to the many wonders of the natural world.”

As well as flowers the children also planted potatoes, carrots, cucumbers and lettuces which when ready will be harvested and used within the nursery kitchen for the children to sample and enjoy.

As part of the nursery’s daily Early Years Understanding the World activities the children are encouraged to investigate the world around them by using touch, smell and taste to assist with their understanding of their surroundings, with gardening an activity they all love.

Added Gaynor: “Being outdoors is a favourite, and particularly when it’s harvest time as the children can try eating their harvest in nursery or take them home to share with their families.”

Exploring through play using garden tools, trowels and forks and then watering their garden is a fun learning activity and one that all children, from the nursery’s youngest at 2-years of age upwards, can take part in.
