'There's a Sunflower in my Supper' at Kidderminster Nursery

The holiday seasons are always busy, Christmas in particular, with lots to do and many people to see, so Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster decided to hold their traditional Christmas production in May! Nursery Manager, Miss Gaynor Carter, said: “We have always put on a Christmas production for parents, like most other nurseries, but this year we wanted to do something a little different, so decided to change things and have a summer celebration instead.” Discussing growing with the children was the perfect theme for their stage production of 'There's a Sunflower in my Supper' – with parents and family members all invited to watch and enjoy as the young thespians performed and sang their hearts out in their summer season ‘good will’ production. Miss Carter added: “The story is about Daisy the cow who is always dreaming of a lovely garden but is only ever allowed to buy grass seed for the other cows, and Mr Bull! “At the market Daisy finds a seed and decides to plant it on a hill, hiding it carefully under a milk pail to keep it safe, but of course it doesn't grow as the children demonstrate a seed needs soil, water and sunlight in order to grow!” With a cast of 84 and ages ranging from 2 years to 4 years-of-age participating, this was the biggest production Little Trinity Nursery has put on to date. Rehearsals began following the Easter holidays, learning songs and practising on the stage over the last few weeks, with the production involving children from across the nursery, and supporting their classroom focus of growing. Growing their own sunflowers from seeds the children then planted them in their nursery garden to join their beans, cress, raspberries, carrots and other vegetables. 'There's a Sunflower in my Supper' has a classic happy ending, with the hill growing a beautiful sunflower and all the cows, and even Mr Bull who is usually very grumpy, happy as they celebrated and sang with the bugs, bees, birds, butterflies and all the other wildlife that visits the sunflower and the many other flowers on the hill. Said Miss Carter: “The children simply loved to perform on stage to parents, family and friends and thoroughly enjoyed dressing up; looking fantastic in their flower, animal and mini-beast costumes!”
