Winter Training Focus After European Championships Success in Spain
A Kidderminster music teacher is hoping for good training this winter after taking the podium in her fourth international appearance for the GB age group team at the European Championship Duathlon last month in Bilbao, Spain.
A teacher at Holy Trinity School and Sixth Form Centre, 54-year-old Sarah Paterson said: “It was always going to be a tough race with strong competition and a challenging bike course, but my hill training paid off and I was able to draw away up the 7km hill. By the time I got to the last run, I was in 3rd place and managed to secure 2nd place with 100m to go.
“It is such an honour to be part of the GB age group team and I would like to thank the school’s Headteacher and its Board of Governors for supporting me on this journey and I would also like to thank my bike sponsors Gnar Mech Cycles in Kidderminster for ensuring my gearing was perfect for this hilly course!”
Having only bought her first bike six years ago, the the Sprint duathlon involves a 5km run, 20 km cycle and a final 2.5 km run.
