WYJO and WYJO2 to play with Mark Nightingale at the Artrix

The Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra, well-known and loved by all who adore big bands, will be performing at the Artrix Theatre in Bromsgrove on Wednesday 9th July, with special guest, Mark Nightingale. WYJO Musical Director Ian Hattersley said: “The Artrix is a fantastic venue and it promises to be an amazing evening, performing as we will be with our special guest Mark Nightingale.” Trombone supremo, Mark Nightingale, is also a leading educator and composer who has written numerous grade examination papers for brass players, has earned a reputation for being one of the world’s top-flight jazz trombonists and session musicians. Performing and recording with a ‘who’s who’ list of artists such as  Sting, Tom Jones, Steely Dan, Charlie Watts, The Spice Girls, Robbie Williams, Frank Sinatra, John Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Urbie Green, Carl Fontana, Jiggs Whigham, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Alan Barnes, Bill Holman, Claire Martin, BBC Big Band, John Wilson, Clarke Terry, Ray Brown, Kenny Wheeler, Scott Hamilton, James Morrison and Stan Tracey – and that’s just naming a few! A much loved jazz orchestra, WYJO have performed at an impressive number of events and venues around the region including the Pershore and Upton Jazz Festivals, Huntingdon Hall, The Swan, No.8 and Artrix theatres, Caldwell Castle, Himley Hall and big band weekends in Hayling Island and Weston-Super-Mare. Every year WYJO performs to audiences from across the county and beyond, with 2014 seeing the orchestra flying the Worcestershire Youth Music (WYM) flag during their second European summer tour, playing gigs in Holland, Belgium and Germany.
