The year of the Wood Snake, Chinese New Year was celebrated by children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster whilst learning about the people and culture of China, its traditions, and foods.

2025 is the Year of the Wood Snake, the sixth animal on the 12-year cycle, with the snake meant to symbolise wisdom, growth and renewal, with the snake having the ability to shed its skin, helping the children to understand the concept of transformation.

Nursery Manager, Gaynor Carter, said: "We include a wide range of celebrations and cultural festivals from around the world in our curriculum. This approach allows our children to expand their knowledge and appreciation of various traditions and cultures globally.”

The children had a wonderful time playing with a Chinese sand-number tray, decorating Chinse lanterns, wearing snake masks, sampling Chinese foods, reading Chinese stories and a making and decorating a big snake.

Little Trinity’s children have frequent opportunities to discuss and participate in a diverse range of traditions and experiences that they may not have access to at home which helps to promote their Understanding the World as part of their EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) learning.

Gaynor added: "Celebrating Chinese New Year and the Year of the Wood Snake has been a memorable sensory experience for the children and staff!"
